The Department of Oriental Painting aims to nurture professionals
with the ability to inherit and succeed the styles and techniques of
Korean traditional art as a basis for contributing to the future of
Korean art.
The freshmen course concentrates on attaining basic knowledge in
Oriental painting by learning the properties and techniques of
moonbangsawoo, otherwise known as the four basic instruments: brush,
ink, paper and inkstone. The sophomore curriculum focuses on learning
the traditional techniques of ink painting and color painting as well as
studying the history of Oriental painting. The junior year leads
students to deepen their field of interest and develop methods of
expression through more varied and mature practices and techniques of
produce creative outcomes. The students also investigate the
significance of Oriental painting in contemporary art.
